I Have More Rainbows
“I Have More Rainbows” is a game that serves as an excellent introduction to math. The abacus is an irreplaceable tool in developing early math skills and never goes out of style. However, simply handing an abacus to a child might result in them just fiddling with it aimlessly. This game integrates the abacus and dyes it in “rainbow” colors to increase its appeal to children. Abacus games are also common in daily life, such as counting sequences where children arrange the beads from 1 to 10 to practice counting forwards and backwards; comparing sizes by randomly moving beads to mix up the number order, improving children’s quick judgement; dividing “fruits” to practice addition and subtraction; playing hide and seek by scrambling the bead order and finding the matching number of beads; and mirroring, where beads are jumbled and children must find the number of beads that add up to 10 on the opposite side. These games can effectively improve children’s arithmetic skills within 10 and spark their curiosity about math.
