Energy Conversion
Press the mini fan to make the tassel float as the wind blows. The harder you blow, the faster it moves. Slide the red pin to select wind speed. The windmill spins, showing how wind energy turns into mechanical energy and then electrical energy stored in the battery. Move the slider on the windmill – it’s like electricity flowing along power lines to homes! The slider enters the outdoor battery box, pushing out the yellow slider so the power can go to appliances inside.
Electrical energy can change into other types of energy too: music plays from the speaker (music note symbols appear as you slide), light shines from the floor lamp (slide to the lampshade), heat puffs from the toy oven (a little flame symbol shows), cold air comes from the refrigerator, and you can see ice cubes if you open the door.
Nature provides solar energy too: the sun’s rays hit the solar panel (lift the flap to reveal the power slider) and can be converted into electricity just like the windmill.
